Society members host occasional do-it-yourself working sessions to help both Society members and non-members (associates) with genealogical research online. They share expertise and experience with Ancestry.com, RootsWeb, and other resources. Coordinators will create a basic online family tree for beginners with automatic 24/7 searches for additional information and family photos. Come to the gathering, access your own family tree, see what the searches have found, and begin learning how to take over their own tree and build from there. If you have one, please bring your laptop computer or tablet so that you can access the online services through the house WiFi.
If you haven’t already created your family tree in genealogy software, or placed your family tree online, please complete this Genealogy Form and email to lanedbrooks4 -at- aol -dot- com. If you have any questions, please contact Genealogy chairman Doug Brooks at lanedbrooks4 -at- aol -dot- com.
We hope you’ll join us for our next one, and start/continue/finish your research journey!

DAR Library Trip
You are to be commended for your efforts and taking the time to organize this outing. I really appreciate all that you did, especially the guided tour you conducted at the start of the visit. My first impression was the discovery that a resource like this even existed locally. I was unaware the DAR had such an extensive collection of genealogy related material, and that it is readily accessible to the public. I am looking forward to future visits and to exploring other local resources which you indicated you plan to do next year.
The next thing I should mention is the out standing staff at the facility. Everyone I spoke with, or asked a question of, was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. It made it easy for a first time visitor such as myself to locate pertinent references.
Finally, I want to assure you that I found the trip very worthwhile. After I learned my way around the stacks, I was able to locate information on relatives I had been unable to find previously.

DAR Library Trip
My wife and I want to thank you for setting up the DAR Library genealogy visit this weekend. It was a fantastic experience and to be honest we never expected to have some much information and resources at our disposal! We found several leads for the Johnston family history. We are focused on finding more information on Nathan Johnston (b. 1790. VA d.1850. AL) and feel like we have accelerated our learning on creative ways to search our lineage. Thanks so much and look forward to attending all the genealogy field trips. Great activity to introduce us to the fine people of the SASDC!

DAR Library Trip
Thanks so much for leading a very informative trip to the DAR genealogy library. The building is not only packed with reference material, but is absolutely beautiful. I appreciated your overview of the library and your suggestions for searching various state and family records. It was also a terrific opportunity to use the Genealogical Research System. I am thrilled to have found Revolutionary War records for two of my relatives and feel I am one step closer to finding the elusive Scottish missing link in my McDonald heritage! Many thanks to you and the Saint Andrews Society for sponsoring such a worthwhile outing!
