National Kirkin’ O’ The Tartan

The St. Andrew’s Society of Washington, DC is pleased to announce that this year’s Kirkin’ O’ The Tartan will take place on Sunday, April 26th , 4:00 PM, at the Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.
This is an extraordinary event in the life of the Metropolitan Washington, DC Scottish Community. The Kirkin’ takes place on April 26th at the Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, Washington, DC. Pipes & Drums, Color Guard, and Members in full regalia step off at 3:30 PM from the South Walk.
The Washington St. Andrew’s Society has conducted the Kirkin’ Service at the National Cathedral, interrupted, since 1952 when it was moved there by then Chaplain Rev. Dr. C. Stewart McKenzie from several other churches in the Washington area.
The massed Pipes & Drums, and Color Guard will lead the Tartan Bearers and Society Members into the Cathedral Nave at 4:00 PM for the start of the service under direction of the Cathedral Verger. Upon conclusion of the service, the massed Pipes & Drums march in again to the High Altar with Society Members for the “Blessing of the Tartans”, Remembrance of Departed Comrades, and Benediction.
Reserved Seating
RESERVED SEATING in the National Cathedral is available for this service in front Nave. Reservations are free to all Members, other St. Andrew’s Society Members, and Guests, and they may be obtained, preferably via email or by phone, from the Society’s Sergeant-at-Arms: David S. Gathering Instructions
Society Members and Invited Guests are requested and encouraged to join in the procession into the Cathedral. Formation will be on the upper South Drive at 3:30 PM and will step off with the Pipes & Drums and Color Guard at 3:45 PM. Those in the procession will have reserved special seating at the very front.

The Procession
Prospective Members, other St. Andrew’s Society Members, and invited guests are welcome to join the procession. Seating reservations for processional family members and our guests in designated areas closely behind the Society/processional reserved area are available.
The Recession
Upon dismissal at the Altar, the entire company follows the Pipes & Drums and Color Guard out of the Cathedral in procession.
The Conclusion
All attendees are invited to view an open-air performance of the St. Andrew’s Society Pipes & Drums, and Dancers, outside on the South Walk, which form a perfect venue for this event immediately after the service.
